H Ford Mortuary Services after a former employee claimed the funeral home reused caskets without taking proper precautions. The state Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers fined Edmund Ford Sr., director of the funeral home, and the mortuary service a total of $3,500, ordering them to stop the process immediately. The report filed against the funeral home in January stated the business used hospital body bags as casket liners in order to reuse rental caskets for funeral viewings before cremation. The employee, who was not identified in the state report, claimed he reused one casket more than 20 times beginning in July, 2016. The complainant said he was ordered to place the deceased in a body bag and then into the casket. Once the service was over, he removed the body and the bag, placing them into a storage area. The casket was then recycled for future use. Ford explained in the state report that the charge for cremation includes the cost of using a rental casket to provide families of limited means with a "dignified service."...
